tradition 11

tradition 11 -I started getting sober while living on a boat. I did have internet access so I spent a bunch of time googling "alcohol and actress" "alcohol and celebrity". Once after a horrible slip when I was thinking I was doomed to die a drunk, I found a share by Jasmine Bleath an actress on BayWatch. Now I never really watched the show, but she was a young pretty woman so her share was pertinent to me. I still remember the quote of her saying. "I was doing so much coke I got gangrene in my nose. I vowed never again. And then 3 weeks later I was snorting again" at the time she had 2 years and to me that seemed like a lifetime. So I had to keep trying. If a Baywatch bimbo could get sober then so could I! (sorry Jasmine I am sure you are a great woman and I hope you are still sober...you really did inspire me and I owe my 18 months sobriety to you).

I also took strength from the fact that Kristen Davis (Charlotte of sex and the city) was sober 12years. One of my favorites Andrew McCarthy said he made Pretty in Pink totally hung over and now is sober for years. I was watching Jada Pinkett Smith on Tyra Banks. They were making some homemade bath products. There were 4 women doing this recipe that now is sold mass market. They were all having fun. To make the product you need milk, some other ingredients and something to stabilize the milk. Jada picked up the shot of vodka and said in a shaky voice 10 years clean and sober....Tyra looked concerned and then Jada threw it in the mixture. It was just cool for me to see women having fun sober!

There is an Elton John tv show where he talks about his addiction and Sting and Rod Stewart talk about his addiction. Sting was saying how much fun he still is. Rod was saying how he could never keep up.

I just saw a bit of a show called "Rock Star Wives" on VH1 (my god is good to me and so often when I am spinning the channels I stumble on people talking about addiction). I think the gist of the show was all about the lives of Rock Star Wives and how they spend $, and how they deal with groupies. One segment was on addiction, their husbands and their own. Tommy Shaw of Styx was saying how his wife went to rehab and he just white knuckled it....and they are still together. Not sure if they do AA. One of my all time favorite speaker tapes is Craig T. Nelson (Coach and Poltergeist) hilarious.

While I don't want everyone to know about me, I am so so grateful to those public figures who do speak out. As for seeing celebrities in the rooms, I have but I never realize that they are celebrities until after the meeting. Would you really recognize Eric Clapton if he was in a room with you?
